Thank you very much for your trust and support.
Over the last few weeks, we all have been working on the preparations for the physical Frankfurter Buchmesse 2020, driven by the hope of sending a signal during these difficult times by creating a market place for personal exchange, new contacts and your business activities.
It is therefore with great regret that we have to inform you today that the physical Frankfurt Book Fair will not take place this year. Despite the approved hygiene concept for the exhibition grounds and the support provided by the Neustart Kultur programme, which we have passed on to many of you directly in the form of a stand rental waiver, the current travel restrictions due to Covid-19 make it impossible to ensure a sufficient presence of trade visitors and to carry out the exhibition operations within the halls as planned.
However, we also have been putting a lot of effort over the past few weeks into developing digital representations of the international market place for content and publishing. With Frankfurt Rights, we will be offering you a platform for your rights business that can be used all year round. At the Frankfurt Conference you will be able to experience four days packed with expertise: Our virtual conference programme will offer discussion panels, Q&A sessions and short presentations by international experts. And with the new matchmaking tool you can find and contact valuable business contacts worldwide.
Thanks to the generous support from the German government, all digital offerings and services are free of charge this year.
Last but not least, this year we are once again focusing on authors and their stories: whether at the first digital edition of the Weltempfang, at BOOKFEST digital or as part of the live programme at BOOKFEST city, or the ARD Book Fair Stage in the Festhalle, which will remain in place: The Frankfurter Buchmesse Special Edition will again be a platform for socio-political topics, staging content and ideas in a media-effective and wide-reaching way.
We appreciate your continued loyalty and trust and look forward to seeing you again – in a few weeks at the Frankfurter Buchmesse Special Editio, and in a year from now again in Frankfurt.
Yours,
Juergen Boos
